The transformation zone of the cervix is the region where simple columnar epithelium cells of the endocervix begin changing into nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium cells as they transition into the ectocervix. The transformation zone is hence a squamocolumnar junction between the endocervix and the ectocervix.
